Is it time for an innovative relationship reset?

Just the other day I had the idea pop into my head that I needed to do a relationship webinar. And not WAIT to do it but do it NOW. So I am! I scheduled it for next Wednesday at 12:30-1:30 pm. This will actually be a webinar series once a month. And I am bringing in different experts to help us! We will discuss different things each month that will help us with different relationships and give us different points of view so that we can improve our relationships in a BIG WAY.

A few years ago, we moved from our nice home to a place that was closer to family because I felt as though I was the only one present in my families life. I felt like I was doing it all on my own even though I was married. We really were struggling. I thought maybe there was just something wrong with him. And I needed to be close to family to help me raise my kids. Well, fast forward 2.5 years and things are better than ever! I just glanced out the window a few minutes ago, and my awesome husband was pushing my daughter on the swings. He is taking a short break from working on his business and spending that time outside with my daughter. It made my heart swell in my chest with love and pride. Holy cow we have come so far and I keep having to ask myself if I need to pinch myself to see if it is a dream. Really. I feel so happy that I get to work along side this amazing man each day.

2 years ago if you would have asked me how I felt.. Well, it would have been a whole different story. I would have complained about how he came home mad everyday. He was angry about life. And he was mean to me and the kids. Not abusive, just angry and took it out on us. I was at the end of my rope. I needed to fix this situation and couldn’t stand living like that anymore. And so I started learning and reading and changing things. Changing me. Doing better in MY life, and amazingly it rubbed off on him!

Anyway, I would like to share SPECIFIC tools and things we have done that have made the difference for us and what has helped us survive the crazy waters of self employment and come out so well off in our relationship! How to Workout AT HOME with KIDS!

Some of the excuses I find people make is: no time, and not money and I have kids and it makes it too hard. WELL… If you decide you really do want to workout and get the results it brings, you will find a way. Here is a fun little video I created to help you see some fun ideas I came up with. How to Get Out of the Rutt of Old Habits

One of the things I have learned is: It can be HARD to change your old habits!! We start a habit for a reason- be it being easier or you want to do something in the moment- but usually NOT for the long term. Those kinds of habits are harder to create. There IS a way to create long term habits though!

So first step is to decide an desire to change that old habit. You can’t change something you don’t want to change. Your brain will sabotage you too much. So are you changing it because YOU want to or because someone else said you should?

Second step is to think about the NEW habit you will replace it with. What do you WANT instead? getting rid of an old habit will create a void in your life that will be filled with something. So you better fill it with what you WANT to fill it with.

Create the destination you will get by choosing this new behavior.. where will this take you? What will your life look like because of this? How will it make you FEEL? Add in details, emotions and numbers. Those kinds of details help your brain really SEE what you want it to do for you. Just like placing your order in a restaurant- if you want onions- tell them. If you want the dressing on the side, include that. Be specific in creating that destination in your mind.

Forth step is to GET EXCITED!! Pour energy into it! The more excited you are for something the faster and harder your brain will work for you! Say it out loud, think about it often! Smile when you think of your goal and destination the new habit will bring!

Fifth: tell others. This really helps your brain know you are serious this time. Our brain really likes to avoid pain and if you tell someone something you are doing, and you DON’T do it, then you get embarrassed and that is pain to your brain. ¬†So if you are NOT serious you tend to keep it to yourself. The more serious you are on getting your goal, the more people you will tell about it. So share away. Tell the people who will keep you accountable, tell the people who you fear will judge you them most for not sticking to it. Tell EVERYONE. Social media, freinds, family. This will get your brain to work.

Now, focus on it a little everyday. Set out action steps. Get to work. You have created the ground work in your brain and now you are READY to change your behavior!

Fear is something that can stop you. Literally. I broke my ankle last year because of fear. I totally would have been fine if I did not get scared and stiffen up. It is said that “fear paralyzes you” and I am here to say that is SO true. Check out my article about my broken ankle here.

How A Broken Ankle Improved My Life

broken ankleToday marks a year from when I jumped off that silly ledge and broke my ankle. Do I wish it never happened? CERTAINLY! Can I change that? No not even if I wished with all my might.

You see, I discovered something that day. I found out that sometimes things happen to you. Things out of your control or that you did not intend to happen. Sometimes it is caused by someone else or sometimes it is a silly little mistake you made yourself. But the facts remain that stuff happens. Sitting there on the ground realizing that I probably broke my ankle caused lots of things to go through my head.

“This can’t be true. I run a fitness business- who can I do that with a broken ankle?” “I really hope this is the best case scenario if I did break it because that will be really hard to be a mom with a broken ankle.” “Let’s just hope it is not broken.”

But as the realization of the situation settled it and I realized YES it was broken. YES it will need surgery. And I will NOT be able to walk on it for several weeks let a lone exercise!  I could not CHANGE those facts. I had moments of being devastated by this fact. And being upset by the fact that this will effect me for the rest of my life! And I knew it would be SUPER HARD! Just thinking of what I went through last year makes me hope I never have to experience it again.

So how did this improve my life, you ask?

Well you see, I learned something at a new level that I had not had to experience previously to this. I learned that when you have something like this happen. Something big that you cannot change the facts: you have a choice to make. You can react to the situation. You can choose to be devastated by it, and really let it get you down and keep you down. You can let it dictate and control the outcome of the rest of your life. You can let it make you sad and depressed. OR! Or you can choose to respond to the situation. And CHOOSE how it all turns out. You can choose to see how to make the best of it and learn from the situation you are placed in. We are all human and of course there will be moments of devastation and depression in any hard thing that happens to us. And that is OK! I let myself feel those things. But I decided that I could choose to dwell on that or I could choose to move on and think positively again as soon as I could.

  • I looked for ways I could use this experience to help others.
  • I looked for the blessings instead of the hard things.
  • I recognized the hard things and addressed them as best as I could.
  • I decided it was a great opportunity to read books I did not have time to read before.
  • I decided it was a great opportunity to develop new relationships with others.
  • I discovered I could relate to people on a new level.
  • I went a few places in a wheel chair and gained a new understanding for people who are always going to be in a wheel chair and what they have to deal with.
  • I found out how hard it really is to let others serve you and to feel good about yourself when others have to do things for you that you can’t do for yourself.
  • I found out that I can be happy, I mean really happy and not have to be doing everything that I though I needed to be doing to be happy.
  • I found peace in the healing and the process.

You know what? Life is amazing. We have big ups and downs. We all experience hard things. Life is never quite what we think it should be. But we can choose to be happy not matter what. We can CHOOSE to view things differently. Now I know that I can go through HARD things and learn A LOT and be happy through it all!

If you get anything from this article this is what I want you to take away from it: Don’t let the hard things that happen to you dictate your happiness and outcome. Choose to respond and not just react. Things can always be worse and they can always be better- but YOU. You are the one who has ultimate control over you.

My ankle will always have some sort of reminder of what happened. I cannot change that. But you know… It is also a reminder that I am happy and thankful for everything I do have. I can jump and run and do almost everything I could before! I am doing REALLY good. Life is good and no matter what happens to me. It will always be that way, because THAT is what I choose. What do you choose?

How I Got Out of Depression and Started Living Again!

design (62)Have you ever wondered why I tell you about Shakeology so much? Honestly I have never wanted to be one of those “shake” people and push products on people. I am REALLY picky about what I stand behind and tell others about! I want to be fully open and honest about things with people! I want to only SHARE things that I truly believe in and stand behind. And Shakeology is one of those things that I really stand behind. But that hasn’t always been the case.

I have been drinking Shakeology for 5 years now. And I LIKED¬†it, but not enough to actually tell people about. I just liked it alot. But it wasn’t one of those things I wanted to run around telling others about! I have to REALLY LOVE something before I ever tell others about it and REALLY REALLY LOVE something before I would sell it to them. Would you like to know what changed?

Two years ago, I stopped drinking Shakeology because we moved to a new home and needed to cut down on our expenses. And that was one of the things that did not make the cut! So I was off of it for about 9 months and during that time, I slowly started to crave foods more and started slipping back into my old eating habits that I had worked so hard to change! I slowly gained weight and it finally got to the point where I could not control my cravings anymore! During that time my grandma that I grew up with across the street from me. The reason I moved to be closer to. One of the people who made the biggest difference in my life, died. Just thinking about this makes me emotional and miss her SO SO MUCH. Well, I started eating to compensate for the loss I felt. To bury those feelings I was having to deal with. To cover up the depression I felt. But I did not see that at the time. I just knew I missed her and that my nutrition was bad and I couldn’t control myself anymore! That Christmas season I ate EVERY. SINGLE. TREAT. That came to our home. (so if you were one of the neighbors who dropped one off, yes I ate it all) I didn’t even share them with my family! And you can imagine how I beat myself up about that! The guilt that ensues each time you eat so much sugar, but also the guilt I felt that I did not let my family eat any of it. That I was so selfish to eat it all myself. ¬†Each and every time a treat came! But I could just NOT control myself! I kept trying to get back to working out consistently but would start and fall off the wagon countless times. So many freaking times! I was just so low on energy I couldn’t get back on my feet again. So lost.

This lasted until about April of last year. And the crazy thing is, my other grandmother whom I took care of and she even lived with my right in my home died right before I said, “enough is enough!” and I decided to order Shakeology and invest in myself and do EVERYTHING I was doing before when I was successful! And you know what? RIGHT after I started drinking Shakeology again I was actually able to handle my food cravings again! They did not FULLY go away but it was suddenly doable! It was easy enough to the point that I could actually step back and address the problems that were causing me to have such bad cravings. I started to recognize that I would crave sugar when I had excessive emotional stress. And when I did not eat enough or sleep enough. The Shakeology just helped me fill in those gaps in my nutrition so that I could move forward again. And starting to control my food and be able to actually exercise an stick to it again helped me deal with my dear grandmothers death! (both of their deaths now) I did not sink into this depression that I did not know how to get out of again. Yes, I grieved and cried a lot, but not to the point where I could not function properly. I had something to focus on, and the exercise to help me be happy and get endorphin’s flowing again! It just helped. It really really helped.

THAT is the reason I share it with you and the reason I drink it everyday. It helps me SO MUCH! And the more research I do on it, the more I LOVE it! I know some people think that it “costs too much” or that they “just cannot afford it.” ¬†I will tell you something, if you make room in your budget for it, you will be so thankful. It will save you money on all those junk food splurges! It will save you money on multi vitamins, it will save you money on that meal you are replacing with it. It will save you TIME and it will help you get in control of yourself enough to actually achieve your goals. We afford what we want to and I CHOOSE to afford Shakeology every month because my health is worth it to me. And I saw that first hand during that time I was off of it. And now I can share it with you without reservations! I am not a crazy “shake” person. I am someone who CARES about others and I don’t want to see people have to go through what I did! It was NOT fun. I was not healthy emotionally or physically. And I never want to feel that way again.

Do You Need an Easy HEALTHY Sweet Treat?

Yesterday I was feeling the need for something special. Something that would fulfill that sweet tooth of mine. But I did not want to do something that would really throw me off completely. I was tempted to make full out cookies. But then I thought the better of myself. (Good thing)

Sundays for some reason bring out the sweet tooth in me! I started thumbing through my new cook book and ran across some awesome healthy dessert options! I am excited to try some of the others, but this is the one I decided on. So far EVERY SINGLE recipe I have tried out of this book has been fabulous! Highly recommend getting it.

Peanutty Peanut Butter Squares

1 1/2 Cups   All Natural smooth peanut butter

1/2 cup        raw honey (or pure maple syrup)

2 tsp.           pure vanilla extract

2                  large eggs, at room temperature

1/2 tsp.        baking soda

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Lightly coat 8 x 8 inch baking pan with spray. Set aside.
  3. Combine peanut butter, honey, extract, eggs, and baking soda in a large bowl; mix well.
  4. Evenly spread batter into prepared pan. Smooth with a spatula.
  5. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes. Squares may be a little soft when coming out of the oven, but they will continue to cook.
  6. Cool. Cut into 16 squares.

182 calories per square. I got this recipe from the new Fixate recipe book! Awesome! The squares were super yummy! Not too terribly sweet that you fall over right then with a sugar coma- in fact I did not feel a spike in my sugar like I normally do with desserts. It was just sweet enough to feel satisfied yet the protein in the peanut butter help to even out the sweetness. Hope you enjoy it!

The 3 Secrets to Success That You Already Know

design (51)You know how to be successful. We all do. It is taught to us right from an early age. The secret of success is really NOT a secret. The problem is you are not applying it in your life! You keep telling yourself that there must be a secret because you just don’t seem to have the knowledge necessary to reach your goals or else you would have reached them long ago. So I am going to state the obvious for you. Are you ready?

Success Secrets

  1. It is the small things that count. Change happens NOT when you make ONE HUGE EFFORT, but when you make lots of tiny little efforts over and over and over and over again. Keeping on doing those small things over a long period of time. Not stopping until you see the result that you want! Really it is pretty simple. For example a pro golfer does not practice a NEW way to swing his club every day thinking it will be the THING that gives him the result he wants, he practices the same swing over and over again. He even comes up with a little ritual before hand so that his mind is in the same mind set each time. It is doing the same thing over and over again until it is perfected that makes the difference for him. Same thing for someone who sets out to run a marathon. You don’t just wake up one day and decide to run a marathon and then go do it. You run a little every day and push yourself a little tiny bit at a time to build up to the marathon. It takes dedication and consistency! If you were really really consistent at eating a hamburger and fries for lunch EVERY SINGLE DAY, what would the result be? Would you gain extra weight and clog your arteries the first day? No. It would build up over time and then one day you realize that you have gained a bunch of weight and have heart disease. So even if you don’t realize it, this is working in your life if you like it or not. What are you daily consistencies?
  2. Habits and routines. Successful people know that to be able to sustain that kind of consistency, they have to make it as easy as possible for them. And what is one way to do that? How can you spend less effort and brain power on something? Habits and routines. When you form a habit of doing those things that will get you your results that you are aiming for, you can sit back and just get there on cruise control. Set the destination, create the habits and keep going until you get there. Simple. BUT
  3. It is not always easy… The hardest part of this whole thing is keeping it up until you reach your goals. Sometimes things get in the way or you loose sight of WHY you are doing it. And when the roads get bumpy, you feel like it would be easier to just stop- because what is the point if you have been going so long and have not reached your goals yet?? So the real tip here is: Successful people know WHY they are doing something and consistently feed that desire and motivate themselves to keep going DAILY! Are YOU always thinking about WHY you want to reach your goals and feeding your brain on motivation and excitement of reaching it? You should be.

See? Nothing new. You KNOW how to be successful. The next step is to just DECIDE that you are ready to commit to your goals NO MATTER WHAT.

What is Postcron and How can it help me?

I have been using an awesome tool called Postcron lately and I wanted to share it with you because it has helped me and it may just help you?

Do you run a business and need to do regular posts to social media for that business? Or is there something you want posted often without having to actually log on to post it? As a Beachbody coach, I have to post to many different groups daily. It can get daunting if you have to go in and do it every single day.

Postcron has allowed me to schedule my posts out so that I do not forget and also so that I can go out of town and not have to worry if it is going to happen for me or not. Genius! One of the things I like about this program vs others out there is:

  • It supports more platforms than other social media scheduling sites
  • It allows you to have unlimited groups where some of the others only allow a couple
  • It has a very smooth and easy to use system
  • It is FREE! Some of them wont even allow you to do anything on it for free or so limited that it is not worth your time.
